Preserved in a syrup consisting solely of water, Australian cane sugar, hibiscus flower is used in multiple combinations in both cocktails and cooking, from appetizers to desserts.
The color of the syrup comes from the hibiscus flower itself, which is reminiscent of raspberry and rhubarb in taste. Hibiscus syrup contains no additives or preservatives of any kind; once opened it should be stored in the refrigerator.
Usually hibiscus and hibiscus syrup are paired with champagne or a good prosecco or sparkling wine; due to the effect of the bubbles, the flowers slowly open, thus creating a romantic effect worthy of a toast.
