Nick and Nora Cups

The fame-and, of course, the name-of the Nick and Nora chalices comes from a Prohibition-era American film, specifically from 1939, namely The thin man, the shadow man.

Nick and Nora Charles are a married couple (former detective he, rich heiress she, always accompanied by the dog Asta) lovers of the good life and cocktails, parties and the upper middle class, engaged in investigating the disappearance of a scientist and the murders that follow.

There are many scenes in the film in which the couple tastes drinks in these mini-cups: small and extremely elegant, refined, noble goblets from which glassware took its cue almost a century later to revive a form long forgotten but back in vogue with the return to vintage and the revival of the golden age of mixing, speakeasies and half-cocktails. Small but undisputed stars of the bar.

The small capacity and retro style are their peculiarity, the feature that distinguishes them from any other model and brings to mind the atmosphere of the 1920s-30s and the parties of the Great Gatsby.

Decorated, plain, oval, conical, flared, ornate, carved: the Nick and Nora are glasses to be experienced and loved.
